Taylor Swift’s Eras in Interior Design

Taylor Swift is an artist who has inspired me throughout her career and I was lucky enough to see her on opening night of her tour. This blog post will explore how to design interior spaces inspired by Taylor Swift’s eras that will create a similar feeling to her impeccable songwriting. From country to pop, Taylor has evolved and grown both musically and personally. Her eras are not just limited to her music, but also to her personal style and the aesthetics of her albums. She’s an absolute genius on so many levels. I love how she amplifies her storytelling in music video and performances with the use of color. One thing Taylor Swift’s writing and interior design have in common is the ability to make you feel something. If only Taylor Swift’s visual storytelling could paint an interior.

The Debut Era Interior Design

The Debut era was Taylor Swift’s first album, and it was characterized by a natural, country aesthetic. To create an interior space inspired by this era, you can incorporate natural elements such as wood and plants. A rustic color palette with earthy tones can help you capture the essence of the era. You could also add some whimsical elements, such as fairy lights or vintage signage. The key is to keep the space cozy and inviting, with soft textures and warm lighting.

For a more specific design idea, you can take inspiration from Taylor Swift’s music video for “Our Song”, which features Taylor in a natural setting. Incorporate a rustic feel to the room by adding wooden furniture, such as a vintage wooden chair or a wooden coffee table. Use natural fabrics like linen for the curtains and bedspread, and jute for rugs.

The Fearless Era Interior Design

The Fearless era was Taylor Swift’s second album, and it was a significant departure from her country music roots. The album was full of upbeat pop songs that showcased Taylor’s growth as an artist. The album cover featured Taylor in a whimsical dress, surrounded by clouds and flowers. To create an interior design inspired by the Fearless era, you can incorporate pastel colors, floral patterns, and vintage décor. A floral wallpaper or a vintage chandelier could be the centerpiece of the room. You could also add some whimsical elements, such as a canopy bed or a hanging swing chair.

For a more specific design idea, you can take inspiration from Taylor Swift’s music video for “Love Story”, which is set in a castle. Incorporate a grand, regal feel to the room by adding ornate mirrors or an antique writing desk. Use rich fabrics for the curtains and bedspread, and add some gold accents to the room.

The Speak Now Era Interior Design

The Speak Now era marked her third album release. The album cover, featuring Taylor in a princess-like dress and surrounded by a golden glow, was one of the most iconic album covers of its time. The album itself was known for its fairytale aesthetic and lyrical complexity, which appealed to many fans.

To create an interior design inspired by the Speak Now era, you could consider incorporating castle-inspired décor, such as ornate mirrors, chandeliers, and tapestries. A cream or white color palette with a golden glow can help you capture the essence of the era, but you could also experiment with pastels and other soft hues to add a whimsical touch. Additionally, you could add some whimsical elements, such as butterflies, fairy lights, or fairytale-inspired furnishings to create a magical atmosphere that is reminiscent of the Speak Now era. By incorporating some of the key elements of the era into your design, you can create a space that is both nostalgic and timeless.

The Red Era Interior Design

The Red Era was a glimpse as what was to come for Taylor Swift. This album was a bold move as was the entire presentation and storytelling of the Red Tour. The feeling of this era is like a mosaic, broken but beautiful and somehow fitting together.

For the Red era, you can incorporate a bold and dramatic color scheme into your interior design, featuring varying shades of reds and contrasting light and dark hues. Incorporating elements such as as maroon walls, a cream and black rug or a original red brick can add to the overall aesthetic. You can also incorporate elements from Taylor Swift’s music video for “I Knew You Were Trouble”, which features a warehouse party with industrial elements. Think about adding metal accents, such as an industrial coffee table or metal wall art, to achieve this look.

The 1989 Era Interior Design

The 1989 era was a turning point for Taylor’s music career. She fully embraced the pop genre and created an album that was a departure from her previous work. The album cover featured Taylor in Polaroid, which became the aesthetic for the era. The feeling of this era is invigorating.

To create an interior space inspired by the 1989 era, you can incorporate a monochrome color scheme with pops of color and fun, vintage furnishings from the 80’s. You could also add some metallic accents, such as silver or gold wall frames or a mirrored coffee table. The key is to keep the space minimalistic and modern, with clean lines and simple shapes.

For a more specific design idea, you can take inspiration from Taylor Swift’s music videos for “Out of the Woods”, “Style” and “Wildest Dreams”, which are all set in stunning natural settings alluding to different monochromatic color palettes found in nature. Incorporate a minimalist feel to the room by using a monochromatic color palette and clean lines.

The Reputation Era Interior Design

The Reputation era is characterized by a bold and dramatic aesthetic, featuring dark and moody shades. The feeling of this album is that of defiance. Incorporating elements such as a dark paint color, black and white patterned rug, or a dramatic chandelier can add to the overall aesthetic. The key to achieving the feeling of this era is glitz and glam of the 20’s Art Deco paired with a moody, dark color palette and low lighting from lamps.

You can also incorporate elements from Taylor Swift’s music video for “Delicate”, which features a grandiose building with warm, golden monotone interior in contrast to dark spaces such as the subway, a dive bar and an alley as it rains. She’s in a bright blue dress, maybe this could be an accent color you achieve with wall art, decorative books and glassware.

The Lover Era Interior Design

The Lover era was a return to her roots after Reputation. The album was full of romantic and dreamy songs that showcased Taylor’s vulnerability and personal growth. The feeling of this album is that of love, falling in love and self-love. To create an interior space inspired by the Lover era, you can incorporate pastel colors, such as pink, lavender, and mint green. You could also add some dreamy elements, such as a canopy bed, a fluffy rug, or cloud-shaped furnishings. The key is to keep the space cozy and comfortable, with soft textures, round shapes and warm lighting.

For a more specific design idea, you can take inspiration from Taylor Swift’s song for “Afterglow” and create a room that glows during sunset by using warm pastel pinks or yellows and reflective materials like mirrors or glass.

The Folklore and Evermore Era Interior Design

The Folklore and Evermore era are characterized by a rustic and folk-inspired aesthetic. The feeling of these albums is wistfulness. Inspired by the natural world, these eras feature a focus on natural elements such as wood and plants. To create an interior space inspired by these eras, you can incorporate cabin-inspired décor, such as wood paneling, vintage furnishings, and black and white photos.

The color palette for the Folklore and Evermore era is earthy and organic, with a focus on browns and greens. You can add pops of color like lavender and orange for a wildflower feel, which will help you capture the essence of these Swiftian eras. In fact, during her show Taylor added pops of color to this Era by wearing it.

To create the perfect atmosphere, you should aim for a cozy and moody vibe in your interior design. Warm lighting and soft textures are key to achieving this, so consider using string lights, lamps, and soft furnishings such as faux fur or plaid flannel.

The Midnights Era Interior Design

Midnights is Taylor Swift’s most recent album. The Midnights era is a unique aesthetic, characterized by a vintage 70’s vibe, featuring wood paneling, vintage furnishings, and a moody atmosphere. The feeling of this album is introspection. The era is all about creating a cozy, late-night atmosphere, which is perfect for a bedroom or a living room. To create an interior space inspired by the Midnights era, you can incorporate a maroon or lavender color scheme, vintage décor, and clocks.

In addition to the color scheme, vintage décor is also a key component of the Midnights era. You can incorporate vintage furnishings like a unique patterned sofa, a vintage coffee table, or a vintage rug. This will give your space a unique touch, and help you achieve the vintage vibe that the era is known for.

Clocks are also a key element of the Midnights era. You can incorporate clocks throughout the room, from a vintage grandfather clock to a modern wall clock. This will help you capture the essence of the era, and add to the moody, midnight hour vibe.

Another important aspect of the Midnights era is the lighting. Warm lighting is key to achieving the cozy, moody atmosphere that the era is known for. You can incorporate warm, low lighting in a variety of ways, such as using string lights, lamps, or even candles.

For a surprise touch, consider adding a bejeweled room to capture the essence of this era. A bejeweled room can be a fun and unexpected addition to your space, and can add a touch of glamour to the otherwise vintage and cozy atmosphere. You can add bejeweled accents like a chandelier or a mirror, or even add bejeweled wallpaper for a truly unique touch.
